Research Activities

Strong damped Ly-alpha absorption (DLA) systems located at the same redshift as their background quasars, can act as a natural coronagraph and block the strong Ly-alpha emission from the quasar broad emission line region. This would then allow us to detect Ly-alpha emission of the quasar host galaxy as a narrow Ly-alpha emission at the bottom of the DLA trough. It is then possible to study the feeding and feedback mechanisms of the AGN by tracing the Ly-alpha emission from the innermost region of the quasar to the outermost region of its halo.

Present Research Project at IPM

Using coronagraphic DLAs to reveal quasar host galaxies
