  Abstract:
In this paper, the effect of heavy ion in the multistage light ion acceleration in the front edge of the nanometer target at the beginning of the interaction with high intensity, high contrast laser pulse is investigated. In the studied sample, a nanometer layer of heavy Al element is placed in front of the target to amplify the electrostatic shock field. The simulation results with the extra layer indicates the success of this approach to achieve protons and carbon ions with higher energies during different acceleration stages and even the acceleration of majority of heavy Al ions with higher laser pulse intensity.
