  Abstract:
In this work, we consider a spin-orbit coupled two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) of InAs placed on a substrate of GaAs with a finite thickness, where phonons could be activated. We show that phonons, in this system, can enhance the Kerr and Faraday rotations which originates from symmetry breaking in the spin-orbit coupled 2DEG. Even if the off-diagonal elements of the conductivity tensor, sigma(xy) is small at the frequencies in which phonons are activated, the resonance owing to the finite thickness of substrate, enhances the Kerr and Faraday rotations. Besides, if sigma(xy) is noticeable at phonon frequencies by increasing the chemical potential of 2DEG, these rotations will enhance significantly. The enhanced Kerr and Faraday rotations depend on activated phonon characteristics and our results can be verified by experiment.
