Introduction to Fault Attacks on Cryptographic Primitives

School
MATHEMATICS

Fault attacks are a powerful type of physical attacks that can jeopardize the security of cryptographic systems significantly. Such attacks rely on an attacker's ability to inject a fault into the target device using a variety of tools such as clock glitches, Electromagnetic (EM) pulses, laser beams, etc. The faulty output (or some information about it) can be used to deduce critical information about the cryptographic algorithm and, ultimately, the secret key. In this talk, I will review fault attacks on symmetric cryptographic primitives and demonstrate several new attacks developed with our group in partnership with cryptographic groups ...

On the Structure of Crossed Products by Hilbert Bimodules

School
MATHEMATICS

In this talk, I will discuss the structure of the crossed products by Hilbert bimodules coming from homeomorphisms twisted by line bundles, as a special class of Cuntz-Pimsner algebras. First, I will explain a twisted groupoid picture of this class of Cuntz-Pimsner algebras. When the Hilbert bimodule is coming from a homeomorphism of zero mean dimension, I will discuss that the resulting C*-algebra absorbs Jiang-Su algebra. This enables us to classify this class of C*-algebras by Elliott's invaraints. The first part of this talk is joint work with Maria Stella Adamo and Karen Strung and the second part is joint work with Ja A Geong and Kare ...
