Secular evolution of spiral galaxies in non-Newtonian theories

In this talk, I first review some major tensions of the standard dark matter paradigm in local self-gravitating systems. Then I discuss the evolution of exponential galactic disks in the context of the main alternative theories which deny the existence of dark matter particles and instead use different gravity law or dynamics to mimic the dark matter behavior. Abstract: Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) as a part of the standard model of particle physics describes the physics of quarks and gluons. Perturbation theory can be used to solve problems involving very high energies, but it breaks down at low energies forcing us to employ nonpertubrative approaches. Lattice QCD is the dominant approach to solve QCD numerically from first principles. Effective field theories (EFTs) such as heavy quark effective theory (HQET), on the other hand, provide analytic methods to describe the low-energy dynamics of QCD.
