School BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES Abstract: Although many advances have been made in detecting, diagnosis and treating cancer, chemotherapy (the primary means of treatment) is only effective in 25% of those treated. This failure in oncology somewhat relies on trial-and-error or one-size-fits-all approach in which everyone gets the same therapeutic regimen, regardless of genotype. Therefore, treatment strategy in oncology is shifting to precision medicine. Precision medicine is described as the tailoring of medical treatment to the individual characteristics of each patient.
