An improved model for magnetic braking of low mass stars plus application of the model for hot brown dwarfs

School
ASTRONOMY

Currently available models for magnetic braking of solar type stars, predict a braking that is too weak to explain the present-day spin of the Sun. That is why in our previously constructed model we needed to artificially increase the strength of that braking by an order of magnitude. Here we investigate whether having a more complex magnetic field topology or and increased intensity of magnetic braking or mass-loss could provide a more physically reliable model. In addition, we show how the model can be used to explain the scarcity of hot Jupiters and brown dwarfs around G-type stars while they are present around their F-type counterparts. ...

A Mechanism for Ergodicity of Higher Dimensional Expanding Actions

School
MATHEMATICS

Here, I want to provide a general mechanism for ergodicity of higher dimensional expanding actions. Our method is based on creating rich number of generators for which the action induced on the flag manifold is minimal. More precisely, it is proved that for any n-dimensional manifold M, there are 22n-1 different types of locally expanding generators whose existence guarantee ergodicity of the action. ...

On Complexity Growth in Massive Gravity Theories, the Effects on Chirality and More!

School
PARTICLES AND ACCELERATORS

In this talk, first I give a short review of the definition of computational complexity in quantum information, and then its recent definitions in quantum field theory. Then, I quickly review the holographic dictionary for complexity and the corresponding calculations. Finally, I present my own results for the effect of chirality on the growth rate of complexity which have been derived by studying two theories of topologically massive gravity (TMG) and new massive gravity (NMG). I explain how and why the Lloyd's bound would be violated and also discuss the relations of complexity to other thermodynamical quantities.

Development of Fully Two-dimensional Transistors for biosensing Applications

Identifying analytes in fast, accurate, and reliable techniques is of most concern in early detection of diseases which can be achieved using advanced biosensors. In order to build a biosensor with such reliability, new materials and new devices are needed. Based on such prospective we have launched a new investigation to simulate, design, and fabricate proper 2D material based tunneling field effect transistors for biosensing application. To achieve such target, we studied numerous materials that are now available as 2D structures along with their ...
