Accurate Identification of Orthology relations based on Gene Neighborhood Conservation

School
BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

Farmanieh Building, Ground Floor, class A.

A first step in comparative genomics is the identification of homologous and more specifically orthologous genes. Orthology relations can be used to transfer annotations from one gene (or protein) to another. However, various genomic events---such as duplication, horizontal gene transfer, etc. ---can cause erroneous assignment of orthology relations. Gene neighborhood information can be used to resolve many ambiguities in orthology inference.
We present OrthoGNC, a software and a method for predicting accurate pairwise orthology relations based on gene neighborhood conservation. ...
