| 15:00 - 17:00 Seminar The Art of Rhetoric School COGNITIVE SCIENCES Abstract: Rhetoric is one of the pillars of the academic discourse and writing. While rhetoric is a classical and quite ancient art, the knowledge of rhetoric can help the modern scholar with two important functions: writing/speaking communication skills and perhaps more importantly, not falling into the rhetorical traps of well-presented works that are scientifically flawed. In this short talk, I will briefly review the history of rhetoric, explain the classical persuasive audience appeals as well as the canons of rhetoric and finally put rhetoric in the context of modern scientific discourse.
