  Abstract:
Eect of ambient temperature on performance of a resistive plate chamber (RPC) is simulated by calculating avalanche properties of dierent gases used in RPCs. It is found that temperature dependence of avalanche characteristics depends on the gas type. For two avalanche and streamer modes of operation, we showed that the induced signal increases with temperature and the charge spectrum shifts toward higher charge values. The simulation clearly shows that increasing tempera- ture shifts eciency plateau to lower applied voltages and the shift can be removed by scaling high voltage with temperature, which is in a very good agreement with available experimental data.
