  Abstract:
We could assume two different neuron pools, one in the thalamus and another in the low level cortical areas, which consist of neurons with normal distribution for their thresholds. As Crick theory for visual attention, neuron pool of thalamus acts as the site of saliency map representation resulting from different modes of thalamic response. Thalamic reticular nucleus determines which thalamic cells should produce bursting response, which these cells are corresponded with salient location. Saliency information of a location is encoded to the cortical neuron pool. Enhancement of spatial resolution at the attended location occurs in the cortical neuron pool. The computational behavior of these neuron pools during an attentional task like cueing paradigm is studied in this paper. Our analysis has a statistical method for studying the distribution of thresholds in the neuron pools. Computer simulation confirms the computational events in the neuron pools, which are proposed for the modeling of cueing effect. The final aim of modeling is producing a saliency map for attended location. This map will lead to increase in gain and sharper tuning at the location of attention. Winner Take All network at higher cortical areas selects information of attended area, which its main result is priming of a location and benefit of attention
