  Abstract:
In order to understand signal transmission and signal processing in neural systems we need an understanding of their basic elements i.e., the neurons. In this project the two formal spiking neuron models are analyzed. First start with the Integrate-and-fire neuron and turn then to the Spike Response Model .As an application of this modeling the problem of neuronal coding will be considered. To address fundamental questions of neuronal coding ,signal transmission, neural signal processing and synaptic plasticity the proper model for a neuron as a dynamic element that emits output spikes whenever exited is essential. Since I want to work in the area of neural engineering ,the spiking neuron models will help me to understand neural signal transmission and how the neural systems process information for my final goal of interfacing with neurons.
